Sony P200
The Sony DSC-P200 Offers a high-resolution 7.2 megapixel CCD, a 3x optical zoom lens, and an expanded range of nine preset Scene modes to choose from, the P200 is a capable, yet ultra compact body that slips easily into a pocket.
Those looking for differences from the Sony P150 will immediately notice the large 2″ LCD screen on the back, which I love. The battery life is absolutely brilliant, it just seems to last forever. The thing I like is it is like the digital camcorders as it gives you the amount of time left.
I’ve owned this little camera for a few weeks so far, but after seeing a lot of other digital cameras out there, this seems to be one of the most all-in-one cameras out there for the money. I was looking at the Ricoh R1V but it just doesn’t compare and for only a few extra pounds im so glad I got the p200.
The build quality of this camera is standard Sony quality; in other words it is VERY solid.
The range of features, options, manual controls on this camera is phenomenal. This camera is great for novice to intermediate users, and very adequate for an advanced user.
Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend anyone to go ahead and give this camera shot. You will NOT regret this purchase.
It can deliver sharp, clear pictures, suitable for printing as large as 11×17 inches, even with some cropping. There’s also an email image size option that creates files with smaller pixel dimensions for sending over the Internet. Plus, the handful of preset Scene modes handle a wide range of common exposure situations, from beach scenes to night shots.
The P200’s compact shape isn’t all the camera has to offer though The Sony P200’s 3x optical zoom lens has a focal range from 7.9-23.7mm, the equivalent of a 38-114mm lens on a 35mm camera. Focus ranges from 19.7 inches (50 centimeters) to infinity in normal focus mode, with a macro setting that lets you get as close as 3.9 inches (10 centimeters). Which isn’t the greatest but with a new lense it can be excellent.
This I feel is somthing i wish the camera was slightly better at. For those really nice closeup shots you cant quite get in close enough.
Although the camera does not have a manual focus option, it does offer a range of fixed focus settings, from 0.5 meters to infinity. The five- area Multi-Point AF system bases focus on one of five areas in the center of the frame. Through the camera’s Record menu, however, you can opt for Center AF mode, which bases focus on a smaller central area of the frame, or Spot AF, which pays attention only to a small area in the very center of the frame. Also available, through the Setup menu, are two AF operating modes: Single and Monitoring. In Single AF mode, focus is set whenever the Shutter button is halfway depressed. Monitoring mode constantly adjusts focus before the Shutter button is halfway depressed, which locks focus.
To give this camera a mark out of ten i would give it an 8, its outstanding quality and ease of use makes this a must have camera.
Today i got a new macro lense that i bought on ebay for about £20 including postage and it really does help improve the picture for close ups!. NOw i can take really nice clean and crisp shots that slightly blur out the surround its a really nice effect.
It’s really easy to use aswell you just simply slide the lense on over the top of the sony p200 lense and you are ready to go with 16+ D macro lense.
I can now take shots just 2 inches away!
here is a shot ive taken with the macro lense but without a tripod as i have yet to get one.
